Compact Fluorescent Lamp Teardown
- A look inside a failed CFL: TCP EDO-9 -
Below are some pictures I took while doing a teardown of a failed Compact Fluorescent Lamp. The lamp is manufactured by Technical Consumer Products (TCP), but was purchased from a hardware store under the generic brand name "Comercial Electric." It is model number EDO-9 and is a 9-Watt, 2700 Kelvin, 550 lumen lamp designed to replace standard 40-Watt incandescent lamps. This lamp was about 2 years old when it failed, and appears to have failed due to a premature ballast failure (specifically, the input capacitor was blown.) The fluorescent tube appears to have not sustained any damage, but is useless without a funtioning ballast.
