Compact Fluorescent Lamp Teardown
- A look inside a failed CFL -

Below are some pictures I took while doing a teardown of a failed Compact Fluorescent Lamp. The lamp is manufactured by Technical Consumer Products (TCP), but was purchased from a hardware store under the generic brand name "Comercial Electric." It is model number EDXO-14 and is a 14-Watt, 2700 Kelvin, 900 lumen lamp designed to replace standard 60-Watt incandescent lamps. This lamp was about 4 years old when it failed, and appears to have failed due to either a bad starter in the fluorescent tube or a normal end-of-life condition of the tube. The ballast appears to have sustained no damage.
